This article is part of a five-story series created in partnership between ECHO and Gabriel Homes. Each story shows how ECHO’s programs empower participants, and how Gabriel Homes residents use their skills independently in everyday life and in their community.

For Angie, ECHO and Gabriel Homes have been part of her story for quite some time.

Over the years, she has experienced several programs, built lasting friendships, and left her mark along the way.

For many years, Angie (center), a Gabriel Homes resident, was a dedicated member of ECHO’s Supported Employment program, including several years with Blue Elegance.

Coworkers came to know her for her sense of humor, respect for her peers, and willingness to be part of the team.

New Challenges

Today, Angie is enjoying a different pace as a member of ECHO’s LIFE Day Support program. Her sense of adventure keeps her busy dancing, creating art, spending time in the community, and trying new activities with friends.

“Angie is a warm and social individual who seamlessly connects with others. Since joining the LIFE program, she has actively participated in group and community activities, forming strong social bonds with her peers. Angie shares that spending time with her friends and engaging in a variety of meaningful activities helps her feel happy and fulfilled throughout her day.”

Angie also calls Gabriel Homes home, where she brings the same humor and warm presence to her housemates. She has started taking more responsibility for preparing meals. Her personality shines in her home, where she plays game shows on TV and loves painting. Angie proudly displays her canvases on the main floor to show her touch of creativity to her home.

“Angie shines in her independence through everyday choices and routines she can manage on her own. Every task, no matter the size, shows her confidence in decision-making and taking care of her own needs.”

After years of working, learning, exploring, and growing at ECHO and Gabriel Homes, Angie’s journey is a wonderful reminder that meaningful days can look different throughout every stage of life. Her chapter today is about friendship, creativity, and opportunity.
