In 1982, if you showed Gabriel Homes’ five founders what the organization would look like today, they likely wouldn’t believe their eyes.
What was an initial conversation between parent Fran Campbell and Father Gerry Creedon became a robust organization that serves 25 residents, has 25 staff, and is governed by a 12-person board of directors.
Gabriel Homes was recently approached by someone who wanted to nominate to submit a local nomination for Nonprofit of the Year by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce. When staff began gathering accomplishments in 2025, they were shocked by the numbers. The work was familiar, but the data made the scale of daily impact undeniable. Ordinary routines at home quietly totaled tens of thousands of hours of care and connection.
“Working at Gabriel Homes feels like you’re taking care of friends or family after enough time. You feel everything they’re going through – joy, grief, anger, all of it. Each shift, you build strong bonds with the residents, and you’re proud of every new milestone they reach.”

In 2025, Gabriel Homes oversaw...
- 32,519 on-site hours
- 26,325 meals prepared by staff and residents
- 12,000 transportation arrangements
- 73,730 medications administered
- 401 medical appointments coordinated
- 96 meetings on residents’ individual service plans
- Over 300 sports competitions and practices attended by residents
- Over 750 social events attended by residents
These numbers only hint at what life at Gabriel Homes looks like. Each new achievement shows someone growing in their confidence. The day-to-day teamwork of residents, staff, families, and community partners makes independence possible.
“When you work at Gabriel Homes long enough, you see the residents’ growth and become proud of their confidence,” says Jackie Morrison-Toure, another residential counselor at Gabriel Homes. “I can’t have a bad day with the residents when they all have such wonderful things to share.”

What began as a simple nomination grew into a reflection of four decades of impact. Since 1982, Gabriel Homes has helped adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities build independence and thrive. Today, our mission is not only alive – it is also growing. Gabriel Homes’ efforts continue to shape a more inclusive Reston community: one person, one home, and one milestone at a time.
“I moved into Gabriel Homes nearly 30 years ago, and I still feel like there’s more to do! The staff is so kind, and the residents are my best friends in the world. Gabriel Homes makes me a better me – I don’t know where I would be without everyone!”
