Relaxation: the one word with a million definitions.

Some say it comes in the form of freshly painted nails. For others, it’s recharging with a face mask. But everyone agrees: quality time with friends is the best part.

Program coordinator Naomi Pariona and residential counselor Kendra Jones (pictured) organized a recent spa night to show their love and appreciation for the residents. The night gave residents the chance to sit back and relax without moving a muscle.

“We hold ladies’ nights every Wednesday, so we wanted to change things up a bit,” said Kendra. “At Gabriel Homes, we try to give everyone the chance to be pampered.”

The night started with bubbly foot baths. Darcy (left) was first to her foot bath and soaked in every minute. Lucy (center) and Lauren were the next to dip their toes in. January (right), known for having lots of energy, took a deep breath before easing into the evening. Angie waited for the water to cool a bit more before stepping in; once she did, she switched the TV to her favorite channel, the Game Show Network.

“Spa night isn’t perfect unless I can also watch my game shows. I’m glad my friends also like what I watch, but we spend most nights chatting while the TV’s on anyway.”

Kendra passed out the face masks once everyone settled into their foot baths. Once the masks were on, Lauren (left) and January couldn’t stop laughing. Lauren couldn’t stop giggling over how ticklish her mask felt, while January thought she looked hilarious wearing hers.

“I can’t stop laughing once you get me started,” said Lauren. “The laughing was even worse when Kendra took care of my hands and feet.”

While the treatments were softening everyone’s skin, Kendra painted the residents’ nails. Everyone opted for pink fingernails. Kendra then did a round of foot scrubs, followed by painting everyone’s toenails. Many residents stuck with the pink for their nails, while Darcy broke from the pack by choosing blue. By the end of the treatments, everyone left spa night feeling more relaxed than when they started.

“Our spa night felt amazing! I was scared to move once my nails were painted, so I stayed put for a while until everything was dry.”

Spa night is one of many ways Gabriel Homes staff bring extra joy to our residents’ lives.
