For the Hupp family, their support for Gabriel Homes is rooted in friendships.
The connection started nearly 30 years ago when Danny (right), a student at George Mason University at the time, learned about the annual golf tournament through his college chaplain, then-Father Bob Cilinski. Fr. Bob, who served on the Gabriel Homes Board of Directors at the time, introduced new generations of students and alumni to the growing organization, its mission, and its residents.
What was a connection through college became a personal one reaching back to Danny’s childhood.
The Hupps moved to Springfield, Va., when Danny was in early grade school. They quickly bonded with the family who lived across the street. Dennis, Danny’s dad, bonded with the father over their military backgrounds, while Danny played outside with the two sons who were close in age. Although she didn’t play as many sports, the boys’ younger sister was always a part of whatever the family did.
Years later, Danny saw a familiar face at the golf tournament: the neighbor from across the street, Caryn.
“I knew instantly,” Danny recalled. “I hadn’t seen Caryn in years, and I was happy to see she was doing well. Gabriel Homes brought our friendship full circle.”
The mission now had a familiar face, and Danny could see the impact of how independence made a difference in a resident’s life. Caryn was as involved in the family as her brothers, and the Hupps were happy to help her when she needed a hand. Once she got older and was ready to live away from home, the family gave her the opportunity to enjoy a life everyone aspires for.
“Caryn’s family is an inspiring family story about what Gabriel Homes represents,” said Dennis. “Gabriel Homes is there for people who need support, and residents can develop and be as independent as they can possibly be.”
Beyond the Mission
Today, Danny, Dennis, and more in the Hupp family continue to give to Gabriel Homes because they see the outcomes. Caryn is part of a community that helps people live independent, fulfilling lives driven by purpose and belonging.
