How often do the stars align for three major milestones?
For Dave, 2026 is the year of a triple celebration: 30 years living at Gabriel Homes, 30 years working at Walmart, and turning 65!
Dave has been one of the most active members of his community since moving to Gabriel Homes. At Saint John Neumann, his local parish, Dave regularly is active in his Knights of Columbus chapter. On weekends and weeknights, Dave is a competitor in a long list of sports against athletes of all abilities. During business hours, Dave continues to receive high praise from his supervisors at Walmart.

“As his family, it has meant the world to us to see him grow and mature into a wonderful person. The word ‘home’ says it all. Dave feels he is at home, and we know he’s safe and secure at Gabriel Homes.”

30 Years at Gabriel Homes
While moving may be one of life’s most stressful moments, Gabriel Homes makes the transition as easy as possible for new residents and their families. Dave grew up in Kansas City, then moved with his parents to Reston. As he became more confident living on the East Coast, Dave felt ready to live independently. Since moving to Gabriel Homes in 1996, Dave has loved many of our different homes.
Dave has been a shining example of independence since becoming a resident. A devout sports fan, he’s been a regular bowler in a bowling league, played annually in the Gabriel Homes Golf Tournament, and won medals and trophies competing in Special Olympics.
“Since the first time we met, Dave is much better at his game,” says David Whitcomb, Dave’s teammate and friend. “He bowls 20 or 30 pins more than he used to. Sometimes we practice before tournaments to work on form and concentration with the ball.”

30 Years at Walmart
In February, Dave’s employer Walmart rolled out the red carpet. The store celebrated Dave’s 30th work anniversary during its long-awaited grand reopening. Dave has performed many roles at Walmart, from stocking shelves to pushing carts. For his efforts, Dave received the Cornerstone of Legacy Award, a work anniversary certificate, a pin, and a plaque. The latter item was signed by the company’s chairman and CEO.
“There are always new milestones with Dave because he’s a hard worker. Dave has become a much more efficient worker and team player. I’m proud of his growth, and Walmart is lucky to have someone like Dave.”

65 Years Old
You could say this feat is one for the ages. In March, Dave hosted his largest-ever birthday party to celebrate turning 65. All Gabriel Homes residents joined Dave for the festivities, especially the pizza dinner and cake dessert. Dave joked that he was overwhelmed by all the chatter and commotion at his home, but he appreciated that everyone took the time out of their evenings to celebrate his birthday.
