- Was founded in 1982 in the Catholic community of Arlington, Virginia and in 1985 became chartered as a non-sectarian,
non-profit organization.
- Opened its first home in 1985 and by 1998 had grown to four homes (two single-family houses, a townhouse
and a condo) with 17 residents in Reston and Herndon.
- Accepts residents without regard to race, religion or origin.
- Meets the needs of its residents through a staff-to residents ratio of close to one-to-one.
- Is licensed by the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Service.
- Undergoes regular inspections by local and state officials to insure that all health and safety regulations are met.
- Gets its revenue from three main sources: A contract for services with the Fairfax-Falls Church
Community Services Board (about 50%); monthly client fees (about 25%); gifts, contributions and an
annual charity golf tournament (25%).
- Devotes 91% of its revenues to its programs, with administrative costs accounting for only 9%.
