Our Background
  • Takes its name from the angel Gabriel, who announced that God would have a new home... dwelling among His people.
  • Was founded in 1982 in the Catholic community of Arlington, Virginia and in 1985 became chartered as a non-sectarian, non-profit organization.
  • Opened its first home in 1985 and by 1998 had grown to four homes (two single-family houses, a townhouse and a condo) with 17 residents in Reston and Herndon.
  • Accepts residents without regard to race, religion or origin.
  • Meets the needs of its residents through a staff-to residents ratio of close to one-to-one.
  • Is licensed by the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Service.
  • Undergoes regular inspections by local and state officials to insure that all health and safety regulations are met.
  • Gets its revenue from three main sources: A contract for services with the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (about 50%); monthly client fees (about 25%); gifts, contributions and an annual charity golf tournament (25%).
  • Devotes 91% of its revenues to its programs, with administrative costs accounting for only 9%.
